About Joe: Joe O’Donnell is a hands-on owner. He is familiar with the technologies, the costs and the people in the technology sector, and brings nearly 20 years experience working with senior level executives and Fortune 500 companies, as well as with small and mid-sized businesses.

Before founding PC SWAT, Joe worked at UTC for 12 years in telecommunications, IT, and database programming. He left UTC to start a successful telecom software and consulting firm which he sold in 2006.

He was the principal author of United Technologies and Otis Elevator Company’s Conferencing Portal.
Joe delivers expertise in software architecture, and he has created multiple databases for Fortune 100 Companies to manage their telecommunications departments.

He is also certified in data encryption, and a consultant to the global SANS Data Security Institute.

As a nationally known technology expert, he has been quoted in the following:

  • Wainhouse Research Bulletin
  • Teleconferencing Business
  • Telecom Newsletter
  • Polycom Corp’s Web Site
  • The Boston Herald
  • The Boston Globe

He is a frequent guest speaker and panelist and is the author of “The Anatomy of Web Conferencing Choices and Migrations”, published in the Web Seminarian, and the co-author of “Riding the Web Conferencing Tsunami”, an extensive industry report on web conferencing technologies and related markets with Wainhouse Research.

Joe is also president of the local Valley Chapter of BNI (Business Networking International), the largest referral organization in the world.

Why I enjoy my job:
Tech support has been and always will be a challenging field. I love a good challenge and particularly like to work with companies to help automate as much as possible as I do not believe that businesses should be overly consumed with supporting their technology infrastructure as that is a distraction to their core business. I also enjoy delivering a high-touch service with a bit of humor to boot.

People I’d like to connect with:
Small businesses not currently satisfied with their existing IT support, or businesses that would be interested in a review of their environment looking for a second opinion. I would also like to connect with companies concerned about backup, security, and disaster recovery.

My BNI success story:
I joined BNI 2 months ago and it has been the best decision I have ever made for my business. March of 2007, the second month I’ve been in BNI, has been our best month EVER for my business. It is no coincidence that I joined BNI and had our best month of business. In fact, our revenue compared to the cost of joining BNI has been a 12X gain.

It is quite evident that the value of BNI is directly proportional to the effort one puts into it. I have also been the beneficiary of savings due to a renegotiation of my car/house insurance. I tripled my coverage and lowered my yearly price. I have also connected with a retirement planner and a bank officer for a line of credit.

The bottom line is, attend every meeting, put your energy into the effort, and it will yield fruitful results. President of the Valley Chapter in Canton.
